An Especially Noble Calling

Read Sister Joy D. Jones' full address...

I am a woman of the restoration. You are a woman of the restoration. The women who came before us who laid the foundation we now stand upon were women of the restoration. We all have a special role in preparing for the second coming. To avoid getting overwhelmed with the enormity of what we are asked to do, I have decided to arrange my insights in reverse order starting with the promised rewards of our efforts, a crucial disclaimer, and our call as women of the restoration that Sister Jones clearly laid out for us.

THREE || Our Promise: The blessings from our Father in Heaven are close and extend into the eternities. By way of the priesthood, we have direct access to the power of God through our covenants made at baptism and in the temple. As women we can take full advantage of the priesthood. We are promised the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost who “manifesteth all things which are expedient.” (D&C 18:18). We will have more power in our roles to minister, to accomplish our goals, and to effectively inspire the rising generation. And just as was promised to Emma Smith, we are promised A CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR ALL ETERNITY.

TWO || The Disclaimer: The Lord does not expect perfection today. As women of faith, we have a very important part to play in the restoration, but we cannot do it ALL at once and we cannot do it alone. Let the Holy Ghost guide you day to day as you determine your top priorities, what you need to ask for help on, and what can wait for another day. Sister Jones says it perfectly: “Women wear many hats, but it is impossible, and unnecessary, to wear them all at once.”

ONE || Our Call: Step forward more than you ever have before. Boldly declare your devotion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Show up in your families, in your wards, and in your communities. You are needed in those places. Put forth effort in all walks of life, but mostly to receive and act upon revelation. “Lay aside the things of this world, and seek for the things of a better.” (D&C 25:10) Call upon God to direct your path. Be joyful in your journey. Follow the prophet’s voice. Make and keep sacred covenants. Extend His love to others and help them along their path back to God. Hear Him. Follow Him. Trust Him.

"It would be impossible to measure the influence that . . . women have, not only on families but also on the Lord's Church, as wives, mothers, and grandmothers; as sisters and aunts; as teachers and leaders; and especially as exemplars and devout defenders of faith."

"The world's greatest champion of woman and woman-hood is Jesus the Christ."

Grab a scrap of paper, a post it note, or napkin and write down your top three priorities for the rest of this year. Arrange them in order with the absolute most important one on top. Hang this piece of paper on your mirror, place in your scriptures, or somewhere you will we see it everyday. With help from the Holy Ghost, let your list of priorities help you determine what needs to be done today, what can wait for tomorrow, and where you need to ask for help. “The Lord’s loving influence through the Holy Ghost helps us know His priority for our progression.”
